Hertz Furniture Announces Winners of Applauding Teachers Contest

Mahwah, NJ (August 23, 2011) — Hertz Furniture announced the grand prize winner of their Applauding Teachers Across America contest today. Congratulations were given to Jennifer Carpenter of Oklahoma’s Ralph Downs Elementary who has been a special education teacher for the Putnam City Schools district for the past 12 years.

School furniture supplier Hertz Furniture chose Mrs. Carpenter as its Grand Prize winner because of her passion for equipping students with the skills they need to become productive members of society. She focuses on what her students can do rather than on their disabilities and encourages them to participate in the Special Olympics.

Jennifer Carpenter

Mrs. Carpenter cares deeply for each and every one of her students, including Jailyn, the daughter of Donna Martin, who nominated Jennifer Carpenter for the Hertz Furniture contest. “While everyone seemed to overlook what she could do, Jennifer always made sure Jailyn tried her best,” said Martin in her nomination letter. “I write this with hopes that someone will notice that there are teachers out there like Jennifer who deserve recognition for the tireless and heartfelt service they provide. Without her help, my daughter would have a harder time facing the challenges of today. Jennifer instills motivation and confidence in every child she teaches.”

Prize

Hertz Furniture commends Mrs. Carpenter for her dedication and is pleased to award her with a complete set of office furniture, including a double-pedestal office desk, a matching bookcase and an ergonomic multi-function office chair.

“Teachers like Jennifer Carpenter deserve to be recognized and appreciated,” says company president Saul Wagner. “We at Hertz Furniture strive to assist teachers in educating America’s children by providing them with the highest quality school furniture so they can do their best in the classroom every day.”

The Applauding Teachers Contest also had two first place winners. Heather Dobson Brumback of Kentucky’s Pleasure Ridge Park High School and Pam DeBerardinis of Alabama’s St Paul’s Lutheran School each won an executive office chair. Ms. Brumback is a special education teacher, a Big Sister and a Special Olympics coach who has learned from her students never to take anything for granted. DeBerardinis, known as Mrs. D., has kept a smile on her face despite having to teach her class in the corner of the lunchroom since a tornado damaged her school in April. Since all of her school furniture was destroyed in the tornado, Mrs. D.’s new office chair will be put to good use when her classroom is rebuilt.
