The great teacher is able to balance the demands of the sylabus while making learning interesting, relevant, and even fun, for the students. One cannot compensate nor replace the other. And yes, being a great teacher is tiring! From the sound of your comment you seem to be well on your way towards achieving that status.

Thank you for such an important post. For me, it just came on time !! Today I had a very interesting activity with my students in which they had great fun and practised the language in an authentic way. I always do this in class !! On the other side, a supervisor was discussing the importance of working more on the syllabus and working for the test !! Oh, I was thinking all day about which comes first in a teacher’s priorities !!!
Teaching in a way that makes students enjoy learning is actually more tiring for a teacher than teaching everything in the syllabus as you take more time and effort preparing for a suitable activity !!!
Anyway, I guess I will keep teaching the syllabus in an interesting, enjoyable and inspiring environment as possible !!
